The Franco-Australian duo Maxwell Farrington & Le SuperHomard have officially announced their third studio album, Window Tax, set for release via Talitres on 24 April. Accompanying the announcement is the premiere of the video for their lead single, “Supermarket,” an eccentric, uptempo track that perfectly captures the duo’s signature “pop reverie.” Built upon an electro-pop rhythm section adorned with lush strings and acoustic guitar, the song’s visual and sonic landscape highlights Farrington’s rich baritone croon as he narrates a surreal tale of narcissism and sudden obsession during a routine grocery trip.

The collaboration between Brisbane-born Farrington and Christophe Vaillant (Le SuperHomard) began in 2019 after a chance meeting at the MaMA Festival. Their shared reverence for the likes of Scott Walker, Lee Hazlewood, and The High Llamas has resulted in a sound that feels like a lost classic—silky, sunlit, and timeless. This refined aesthetic has already won over the likes of Iggy Pop, who has championed them on BBC 6Music, and Paul Weller has invited the pair on European tours.

To record Window Tax, the duo travelled to Margate to work with Mercury Prize-winning producer Mike Lindsay (Tunng). Utilising a “cabinet of curiosities”–Moog Grandmother, Eventide H949 Harmonizer, Teenage Engineering OP-1, Suzuki TES370 Koto synthesizer, bean-filled shaker, castanets and other treasures–they have crafted a record that balances whimsical arrangements with deep lyrical melancholy.
