This week’s mixtape features three tracks from Ye Vagabonds, who have just released their fourth album, All Tied Together, which we reviewed here. We’ve also got new music from Philadelphia indie stalwart Michael Cormier-O’Leary with a track from his new solo EP, Proof Enough, Bill Callahan‘s Stepping Out for Air, the final preview of his upcoming album, Hen Ogledd‘s Clara (their latest single from their upcoming album DISCOMBOBULATED), a track from Marta Del Grandi‘s new album, In Dream Life, in which she crafts a captivating art-pop landscape where reality and imagination blur, as well as Jana Horn from her self-titled album-her best yet, and a track from Pefkin‘s Unfurling (reviewed here), which ranks among her most beautiful work, showcasing an exceptional understanding of timing, contrast, and texture.
We’ve also tracks from Joe Westerlund, Julianna Barwick & Mary Lattimore, Damien Jurado and Matt Kivel whose latest album, “Escape from L.A.” (out now on Scissor Tail Records), is an “autobiographical song cycle that chronicles the first 33 years of Kivel’s life in the City of Angels. The material was laboured over, rewritten, rearranged, and rerecorded numerous times, between LA, New York, and Austin. Kivel self-effacingly refers to it as his “bootleg as hell Blood on the Tracks” with myriad alternate sequences, tempos and arrangements that will never see the light of day. It involved over 20 collaborators, a string section, pedal steel guitars, and a renewed lyrical and vocal clarity that allows the narrative vignettes to unspool in vivid detail.”
