Three new folk singer songwriters to play on repeat this weekend

Zach Seabaugh – “I am only ever thinking about you”
-If you’re a fan of acoustic singer songwriters, definitely take a moment to listen to this track. This is the type of music I mean when I tell people I love folk music. Seabaugh sings with this sincerity that feels incredibly genuine and satisfying. It’s a quintessential love song, with beautiful lyrics about desire, connection, and attachment. There’s some real “lived life” insights in the expressive lines, but if you are privileged to love someone for a long time, this is a song that will certainly resonate. I adore the tenderness in this recording.

EJ Chen – “I hope you think of me”
-Sometimes I find a track right at the intersection of folk and indie pop that just makes me so happy I don’t know what to say. Chen has written one of those tracks here in early 2026. The easy going acoustic element feels like it’s equal parts folk and indie pop. The calm styling feels comfortable, inviting the listener into the sway like being asked to dance with someone special. The lines are poetic, endearing, and genuine. If you’ve ever longed to be with someone again after having to part for a bit, this song will definitely connect. I appreciate the expressive style in the vocal that allows the listener to connect with the tender romantic heart of the track. I’m going way back for the “sounds like” comp on this one, but I think fans of David Gray will love this song.

Hannah Scott – “In your light”
-It’s weird for me when I hear a voice and just know that I like the artist. I got that feeling right from first listen with Hannah Scott. Of course I enjoy the instrumentation and the full performance, but I was honestly a “yes” right from the first vocal line. The melody on the chorus in particular is just so sweetly endearing that I was doubly won over by the song. As the production builds into more of a full band sound (rather than acoustic singer songwriter), it feels even more rewarding in the way that your music teacher taught you about dynamics. As I lean into the lyrics, I can’t help but notice a root in shared love. You don’t have to be mother and daughter to connect with the spirit; I am neither, yet I felt an emotional connection with this song. I hope you’ll share it with your loved ones.
