Three exciting new folksy tracks you will want to put in your rotation

Lacy Green – “The Dreaming Kind”
-If you’re a fan of an easy going acoustic folk style that still captures a bit of mystery, definitely check out this new track from Lacy Green. There’s a plodding, unhurried style to the rhythm section that makes the track feel syrupy in a good way. Green’s vocal cuts through like a classic vocalist in the vein of Emmy Lou Harris. The genre blend here feels like it has elements of classic Americana alongside more recent country artists. The overall energy of the track definitely encourages the listener to lean in and “keep faith” even when life is challenging.

Hera – “How Stupid Do You Think I Am?”
-This track is right on the line of folk and indie pop, a few of the genres that I curate often. Suffice it to say, I was hooked by this one right away. The melodic style of the keys and the backing production creates an atmospheric that feels comfortable and compelling at the same time. The vocal cuts through the noise with an incisive, captivating tone. The expressive elements on the titular chorus really captures the confrontation at the heart of the lyrical premise. If you’ve ever had someone who is “playing” you in a relationship, these lyrics will be relatable. It’s a brittle, difficult moment to capture in a song, but it’s deeply human and shows considerable vulnerability to open up about it. This is a tender composition that captures humanness in a beautiful snapshot here.

The Burney Sisters – “Who Do You See?”
-I have compared the Burney Sisters to the Civil Wars in the past. That hauntingly beautiful sound is still true on this new track “Who Do You See?” It’s an incredible sound, rooted in close harmonies and passionate lyricism. The lyrical concept is about someone in a relationship who is “seeing” someone else. It’s heartache, heartbreak, and an almost spiritual reflection on the complex layers of relationships. If you’ve ever been in a relationship with someone and pretended you didn’t still have feelings for someone else, then this track will be relatable. It’s such a richly human experience and concept, I’m floored at how well the Burney Sisters capture it here. The production and performance is so good, I’ll most likely be writing about this one again in December.
